The Road to Hana

We had a great day yesterday! We drove around the East coast of Maui on the road to Hana, a popular drive. We drove through jungle like vegetation and saw so many waterfalls. After Hana we went to a national park and hiked the Pipiwai Trail through a bamboo forest to a 400 foot waterfall. The hike took over two hours but it wasn’t too difficult and was really neat. On the way home we had to drive on a gravel road for miles. The scenery was amazing the entire day!

These pictures are from a small hike to our first waterfall through a bamboo forest.

We continued to see many waterfalls.

The vegetation and scenery was amazing! The pictures don’t capture it.

We stopped at a black sand beach. The sand was made from
tiny pieces of black lava and it is a very different consistency made up of tiny shiny pebbles.

The Pipiwai Trail was a great hike.

The ride back was a completely different terrain with rolling grassy hills, red sand hills, and black lava rocks laying across the fields.

Whale watching and West Coast

Today we went whale watching and saw so many whales. Then we drove around the whole west coast. For a few miles the road was a windy one way narrow road with two way traffic! But there were not too many cars. The ride was gorgeous and we did a small hike along the way.

Kamaole Beach III and Secret Cove

Last night we went to a magic comedy show that was so fun! Today we went to Kamaole Beach III and took a walk on the rocks along the ocean. Billy snorkeled and we both saw a a really big turtle! In the afternoon we went to Secret Cove. The beaches here are beautiful.

Secret Cove is a small beach in Wailea near us. It is hidden down a narrow path that we read about in the book Maui Revealed. It was so pretty.

Maui

Yesterday we flew to Maui in a tiny plane! Maui is absolutely beautiful! We are staying in a very nice condo complex across from Kamaole Beach II. Last night we watched the sunset and then walked to a nice Thai restaurant for dinner. Today we went to Makena Beach. It was gorgeous.

Kamaole Beach II across from our condo.

The drive to Makena Beach was gorgeous with mountains and beautiful landscape. Makena Beach was very pretty and we hiked up to the top of the rocks around the beach.

Sunset last night was beautiful.
